Once again, Heroics by Naseem Shah

In a nail-biting 2nd ODI that left cricket fans on the edge of their seats through-out the course of the game. Pakistan’s number 10 batsman, Naseem Shah in part of Pakistan’s Sensational victory, again delivered a stunning boundary off the second last delivery, securing a remarkable one-wicket victory over Afghanistan during the second ODI match in Hambantota.

The 20-year-old Shah’s moment of glory came when he hit a boundary off the rapid deliveries of Fazalhaq Farooqi. He wanted to hit it straight but the ball took the edge of the bat and ran toward the third man boundary.

With immense elation, he galloped towards the dressing room to his mates, marking the climax of a captivating contest in a second Pakistan vs. Afghanistan ODI cricket match. Pakistan required 11 runs in a final over, and due Naseem’s fantastic hitting, Pakistan managed to gather 11 crucial runs in the final over, concluding their innings at 302-9 after 49.5 overs of relentless pressure.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s Career Best Innings

This triumph propelled Pakistan to a series victory with 2-0 lead in a 3-Match Super Cola Series, with the last match to be played in Colombo on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Amidst this fervor in the final overs of the game, we should not forget the magnificent performance by Afghanistan’s opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz. He played a fantastic career-best 151 runs knock at a run-a-ball pace, raising to a remarkable total of 300-5 within 50 overs.

Yet it was the final two overs of the game that truly changed the course of the match, with Shadab Khan playing an excellent knock of 48 runs on just 35 balls. After Imam-ul-Haq, a stylish Pakistani Opening batter’s 91 runs crucial inning, it was Shadab Khan who stepped up for Pakistan this time, slamming a boundary and a six off the last two balls of the 49th over, narrowing the gap significantly.

Shadab Khan’s controversial run-out

It was all hunky dory until the drama intensified when Farooqi executed a controversial run-out, catching Shadab Khan off guard with a dismissal on his very first delivery of the last over, by removing the bails on the bowling end without giving any prior warning.

However, it was Naseem who emerged as the hero, smashing boundaries on the first and fifth deliveries of the final over, ultimately securing victory. Astonishingly, he dispatched the same bowler for two consecutive sixes in the last over, sealing Pakistan’s triumph by just one wicket.
