Ishan Kishan’s fine 47 runs inning was finished with a hit towards midwicket, which was caught by the fielder.

Opening Partnership and Virat Kohli’s Finish

The Opening partnership between Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma’s Record reached 156 runs, out of which 47 crucial runs were scored by the left-handed Ishan Kishan, was pivotal during the entire chase. The innings by Indian openers set the tone for the Indian batting side to chase this nominal total and left Afghani bowlers completely clueless.

The 156 runs stand between the opener in fact solidified the Indian chances to win the game. After Ishan and Rohit’s departure, superstar cricketer and the chase-master Virat Kohli took the charge and started playing very calculated big shots and finished the game with an unbeaten 55 runs.

Afghanistan’s Batting Efforts

After winning the toss, Afghanistan opted to bat first and posted a nominal target of 272 runs for 8 wickets on a really batting friendly pitch. Despite loosing three early wickets for only 63 runs, the skipper Hashmatulah Shahidi’s crucial innings of 80 runs along with his batting partner Azmatullah Omarzai’s vital 62 runs, solidified the inning for Afghanistan, helping them reach a total of 272 runs in the end. It was the Indian bowling superstar Jasprit Bumrah, who broke the back of afghani batting line up and ended the inning with his best ICC World Cup figures of 4 wickets for only 39 runs.
